poster comparison! evan vs aragorn!

I begin with Evan almighty! A stunning poster of mr Steve Carell dressed up as the good man Noah, pulling a Maroline Monroe pose, with his rope blowing around almost revaleing his "tools" and a rather suprised look upon his face!

Straight away just by looking at it we can tell it is a humorours poster, which would want who ever is looking at it take futher interest in the film! People would reconise Carell and know that his roles in films are pretty much completly comical, he is a well known comical actor who always puts on a good show!

The poster itself is very simple, large picture smack bang in the middle, large bold type of the film title, the names "Steve Carell" ... "Morgan Freeman" in slightly smaller type simply letting the audience know who is in it, and then the release date in small type just below.

at the very bottom lays the institution logo that is backing the film, and a website adress for any people that wish to look into the film more.

it is a simple but to the point poster, showing the basic facts about the film's genre, cast and release date.

The next poster is of Mr Aragorn, also known as Viggo Mortensen! this poster (for the third and final film in the lord of the rings trilogy) imdiatly creates a very different atomosphere. People would first notice the very serious but calm expression on his face, grasping his sword gently. His gaze is directly at the audience, drawing them in to the final part of the story, all this gives off the impression there will be action during the film, the sword and armor add to this impression the most. the dim background certainly adds to the gloomy atomosphere the poster gives off. regardless of the fact that people would have seen the first two films (so we know there is a fight to be won anyway) the picture, props and colours suggest there will be fighting involved, no body carries round a sword if they do not intend to use it at some point.
below the picture, again, the title of the film in the classic font, no mention of actors as we already know who they are, and the release date.

again it is simple and to the point, drawing the audience in, leaving them wanting to go and watch the film!

In the argument of evan vs aragorn... evan would have god on his side, and a large amount of animals, however aragorn is the brave, skillful, determined, strong character that makes up the common man! and also has lots of men backing him, and an elf, and a dwarf who along with the hobbits can bite away at ankles.

it would be an interesting battle!

  1. you have made some useful comments here, Stuart, but this type of analysis is far better done by annotating the posters - you do need to pay attention to layout and design as well as the content.
