The opening sequence of Austin powers (Alex Elliott)

I have decided to anaylse the opening scene of "Austin Powers" because it is the complete opposite of "The Notebook" which is just a serious romantic film, and this movie is completely comedy with not a lot of romantic scenes in it although there are love interests present.

The scene opens on a black screen with white writing showing the credits, there is loud music in the backgorund which sounds evil and myserious, like what you would hear in an action film, because it sounds liek something is about to happen. The scene opens on a desert and writing appears on the screen as if it has been typed, it says "1967 somewhere outside Las Vegas" this is setting the scene for the audience. You hear talking but cannot see anything, then scene changes onto a close up of a white cat being stroked. The camera pans out from behind the person that was just stroking the cat, so we still havent seen who they are it is like a mystery, however we do see a table with people sitting around it, they are all men except for one woman sitting there. The room is simple boring colours black and grey and the people sitting around it all look different and srange but in a comedy way. The main person who will still havent seen is speaking about Austin Powers so we have established he has already done something, and we find out the man we have not yet seen is called "Dr Evil" which again is an obvious name for a villain, so this is a typical element expected of a comedy. In the first minute we see the man kill somebody so we know he has power and isnt a nice character. There is a close up of buttons and names and these are pushd when he kills somebody. We see a second person die and falmes appear.

There are close ups on the other people so we can see their face expressions. Another two people die and there is another close up of the mans hands pushing the buttons. There are a lot of screaming noises over the top of the music that is still playing. There is a close up on the only two people left alive and then the camera spins around and focuses once again on the cat. The scene changes and the music becomes happier and upbeat, text appears at the bottom of the screen once again setting the scene "London, England" The camera is focusing on legs walking along, the camera pans up and there is man dressed in clothes that would be worn in the 80's dancing along the street, we obviously realise that this is the main character and the person "Dr Evil" was talking about. Credits come up next to him in yellow font. The title of the movie comes up on a frozenomage of the man saying "Austin Powers" in multi-coloured writing and flowers all around it. Other people on the street start following the man and dancing with him, credits carry on rolling in all different colours.

This was a much more interesting opening scene because some of the story has already been set and it would make you want to watch on.
