The third opening sequence I have decided to analyse is "Bridget Jones Dairy" this is because it is a very good example of a romantic comedy and is loved by many women. Also I would say it is one our strong influences when planning our opening sequence, because "Bridget Jones" is a woman that has trouble with love and narrates to the audience about her life.
The scene opens straight away with a mid shot on a woman getting out of a cab in the snow, there is soft music in the background and a voice narrating over the top, from this we can establish that the woman on the screen is the woman narrating. The camera gets closer to the woman walking along, then the scene fades and opens up with an establishing shot of a village covered in snow. The narration is explaining to us how "Bridget Jones" is still single and it is New Years (the time of year when you want to be in a relationship to start the year off with them), she starts walking up to a house while talking about her mother, then a woman opens the door which we can gather is her mother. We see a high angle shot looking down on the mother and Bridget Jones, then there is a close up on another woman cooking. The mother and Bridget then start having a conversation and the camera cross cuts from each of their faces so we can see their facial expressions. There is then a mid two shot so we can see both of them in the frame.
This film was completely different to the others, it got on with the story straight away and there were no credits. Also you could tell from the beginning that this wasnt just going to be a sloppy romantic film but there would be elements of comedy.
