scene shots of influences (chloe)

shots of 'the holiday', '27 dresses' and 'bridget jone's diary' we used these as influences.

we chose to look at a few scene shots from films that have influenced us in order to try and make our film as appropriate as possible to our target audiance and fit the genre of a romantic comedy.
the shot from bridget jone's diary featuring the character of the mum, its a close up, however unusually doesnt centre the face, even though our eyes are attracted and drawn towards her face within the frame anyway. however out eyes are also drawn towards the things surrounding the face such as the handset of the phone, the dingy walls ans the sign in the background showing only a small amount of wording and leaving the rest for the audiance to work out.

the shot tells us that the character has obviously just heard some shocking infomation, or could be passing on some shocking or exiting infomation judging from her facial expressions, the shot is light and clear making it easier for the audiance to focus on whats going on in the scene and on the phone convo itself rather than anything in the background.. this is also represented by the dullness in colour of the background and drawing us into specific area's on the character, such as her blue eyes of her lipstick.

another one of our influences was 27 dresses, for me this scene sums up the film, its a centered mid shot of the main character in one of her many bridesmaid dresses, the background is slightly out of focus, drawing us into the centre and the dress itself, the pastle colour suggests a calm atmosphere and a calming enviroment, the character also looks very happy, which again fits into the conventions of a romantic comedy, there is alot of natural light in comparison to the bridget jones shot which reflects the light atmosphere of a romantic comedy compared to a more in depth and complicated film.

the character is not looking at the camera which again draws more attention to the dress that she is wearing, if the focus was all on her face it would have been harder for the audiance to concentrate on her actual dress and it would be easier for the audiance not to take into account the fact she is in a bridesmaid dress.

the shot from the holiday is a mid shot, showing the chacter drinking, she is in the kitchen, we know this from what we can see in the background, the lighting is once again light, compared to something that would be seen in a horrow, the light atmosphere generally follows the codes and conventions of a romantic comedy film, the character is not in the centre of the shot, which allows us to see what is in the background, even though the main focus is the character.
all of these shots do follow the codes and conventions of their set genre and we tried to relate to these because we used the same genre and in order to be successful in completing the task we need to follow certain aspects which feature in the chosen genre.
